Position Summary
Seattle Children’s Theater is seeking a resourceful and highly talented Senior Accountant to join its finance team. The Senior Accountant, in partnership with the Director of Finance, is tasked with overseeing the financial health and sustainability of SCT. To that end, this role is responsible for ensuring competent, efficient, and accurate financial practices and results for operating, capital, and endowment funds. The position oversees organization performance and fiscal controls in compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements, supervises the bookkeeper, and performs complex accounting and finance duties with a high degree of initiative and independent judgment.
Primary Responsibilities:
Audit and Compliance
- Lead the annual audit process in partnership with outside auditors to ensure a clean audit report.
- Oversee all necessary business licenses, tax exemptions, and governmental reporting.
- Ensure compliance with legal and reporting requirements, including IRS regulations and collective bargaining agreements (e.g., IATSE, AEA, USA, SDC).
Accounting and Financial Reporting
- Oversee monthly accounting close, and cash forecasting.
- Manage endowment fund accounting, including monthly reporting, annual expense calculations, allocation, and purpose tracking.
- Oversee general ledger accounting, revenue accounting, account reconciliation, accounts payable, payroll, and ensure effective internal controls under GAAP standards.
- Review and approve invoices for payment, maintaining effective internal controls in accordance with GAAP.
- Review and approve payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations.
- Prepare and distribute monthly expense reports for department heads to review.
- Supervise the bookkeeper to ensure accurate and timely completion of day-to-day accounting tasks.
- Develop and update financial policies and procedures as needed.
- Attend Finance Committee meetings of the Board as required.
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Assist with developing and managing the annual operating and capital budgets, including cash flow analysis and long-range forecasting.
- Collaborate with departments and provide financial information as needed to solve business problems.
Treasury Management
- Ensure adequate cash flow for SCT operations, oversee line of credit usage, and manage banking relationships.
Support Functions
- Support grant applications and post-award financial monitoring.
- Contribute to budget development, tracking, and forecasting efforts.
- Perform special projects as assigned.
- Actively engage in process improvement and system implementation.
Desired Skills And Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field from an accredited college or university.
- At least three years of accounting experience.
- Knowledge of GAAP non-profit accounting principles.
- Excellent organization and accuracy skills.
- Strong commitment to improving efficiencies and reducing paper/printer usage using technological resources.
- Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and diplomacy skills.
- A demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Strong data management skills and familiarity with QuickBooks, MIP, or other modular accounting software; expertise with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Familiarity with performing arts organizations preferred.

Accrued hours are available for use after three (3) months of continuous employment. Regular, Full-Time employees are able to carry up to 180 hours of Sick-Time into the next fiscal year.
